Digital media!

Digital is a word we hear a lot lately. Its seems that everything is going digital…whatever that means! In this task we are going to examine exactly what is meant by digital media. All your findings should be recorded in your blog under a post heading of “Digital media".

1)First off let see if we can list how many forms of digital media surround us

  • Ipods

  • Phones

  • Television
  • Digital Camera
  • Digital Video

  • Xbox

  • Playstation Portable

2)What number system is digital data based on? What two digits are used to code all digital data?
Its Based on Binary Number System. The Two Digits are 0 or 1.

3)What is a bit? what is a byte?
A Bit is a digit in the binary number system. It can have two values, 0 or 1.However bits don't exist individually but in groups of 8 and that is a byte.A byte is the smallest unit of storage that can be accessed in a computer's memory.

4)What is “sampling rate”? Find an image that explains how sampling works:Sampling rate determines the sound frequency range which can be represented in the digital waveform.Sampling rate is a term used in digital audio to describe the rate or frequency at which a signal is periodically sampled or measured.

5)How Does Colour Depth Or Bit Depth effect the Appearance Of an Image ?

Low Colour Depth

High Colour Depth

6)Colour depth effects both still and video digital media. Sampling rate only effects video but not still media. Can you explain?

Sampling Rate Controls the Sound, In a still media there is no need for sound, Sound is not apart of a still media
